The Family Support Services we provide for families in Kent and neighboring counties focus on these important key categories: Self-sufficiency, Parent Education, Children’s Programming, In Home Visiting, Peer Support, Outreach, Collaboration and Resources, Service Coordination and Wellness Education.

Q. What is SOS?
A. Shared Opportunity Service Inc. (SOS) is the nonprofit 501(c) (3) that operates the Kent Family Center located at 601 High Street in Chestertown.  The agency seeks funds and develops family support services for families and individual family members in Kent County.
Q. Why is SOS important to the community?
A. We know that children do well, when families do well, and families do better when they live in supportive communities. SOS helps to build a stronger community by providing guidance and information that changes lives. Programs are designed to empower families to be self-sufficient and healthy thereby capable of contributing to a more resilient community and positive future for Kent County.
Q. How is SOS funded?
A. As a local non-profit SOS is dependent on a variety of funding sources including; State funded grants, private donations, fundraising activities and in-kind donations. Kent Family Center is primarily funded by Friends of the Family (FOF), a Maryland nonprofit its goal to provide comprehensive, culturally-sensitive, community-based, preventive services for families.Family Center programs are supported by qualified staff, and volunteers and students of local Washington College who donate their time.
